Just a quick question. There are different rules with regards to collecting debts in Scotland and Northern Ireland. For example, e have recently learned that we need to appoint a solicitor in Northern Ireland to chase debts there directly. Can we still apply the Late Payment compensation and interest charges? I assume we can but I would like to check first please before I send a very large bill to my non-paying client in Co. Down

Hi,

Yes Late payment compensation and interest are still applicable in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Northern Ireland does have a small claims court but it is limited on the size of debts it will handle and in case it may make sense to have local representation.
