Hi Tom

Yes it does, with the exception of time limits which are 5 years instead of 6 for the rest of the UK

Thanks Ashley,

It may be just me, but the pages are not very clear.

If I understand it correctly - if an invoice is issued 'payment due on receipt' then technically it is not late under 30 days after - I can't understand why this is not shorter say 7 days. Why do you think it is 30?

Hi Tom

As a suggestion, if you really want payment terms shorter than the statutory 30 days, then agree it upfront preferably in writing (more easily enforceable). Having payment terms on invoices is fine but such terms can ONLY act as a reminder of what you agreed BEFORE work commenced or BEFORE goods were sold.

Tom following John's comment if your agreed terms were cash on delivery then payment is late at any point following delivery and not 30 days.

The 30 day rule is the default date where agreed terms are not in place.

Beware the client though whose accounts department varies the agreed terms as part of the set up process or as a condition of payment...and if you do come up against these do not be frightened to point out the error. Most large companies appear to use default dates on their computer systems of anything from 30 to 60 days. This default can be varied but only by request and with a senior member of staffs approval.
