Late Payment Interest Charged After Debts have been settled

Hi

We have received a letter now April 2012 from an agent acting on behalf of a supplier that we last did business with in early 2009.

The invoices were settled, possibly late due to discrepancies or invoices being received late, but paid nevertheless, and we did not further trade with them from 2009.

The agent is charging us interest plus their fee for the invoices being settled late, according to the Late Payment Act. Is this correct? Are they allowed to charge us, even though we have not traded with them for over 4 years, we have not received any statements or letters stating this amount is due?

Seems a Con to me!

You may not like it, but what you're refering to is legal.

It would be unusual, however, to randomly pick up on such an old matter. I would expect, however, a debt collecting company to review previous late payments when being instructed to pursue a new case.
