Blacklists

This site serves to suggest members are on a 'whitelist' of good payers, albeit voluntary. Is there any way of reporting a consistently poor payer to a blacklist or at least being able to rate certain companies - e.g. like giving feedback via Trip Advisor?

Hello Gordon
Thank you for your question. As much as everyone would like to see a name and shame blacklist of poor payers, it could be a bit of a litigation nightmare. It is something that has been discussed though by many organisations. The Forum of Private Business has a name and shame but that is mainly large businesses. Payontime used to host the PLC league tables which was compiled by Professor Nick Wilson at the Credit Management Research Center and that is something we are hoping to re-introduce.

For our supporters we are looking into an option to add a star rating (1 to 5) and the ability for suppliers can to add comments.

As you can imagine, that could lead to a lot of hassle if a business gets a negative review from a competitor etc. Lots of work to look into complaints about bad reviews.

So it is on the list of things to do but we have to think about how to make it fair and honest for all to benefit.

when i was with BECTU we had a ASK first list basically it was a black list of companies that didn’t pay or very late payers The "ask first" list, published every month in the union's magazine, advises its members to contact Bectu before accepting any work with companies it lists. maybe something on them lines?
