Name and Shame was created by Kevin Atkins
Can you create a name and shame list for companies that don't pay on time and that refuse to pay the full amount?

If not, do you know if such a website exists? I have plenty that I could add!

Thanks

I wonder where else one could report bad payers to. I have recently had a letter from a company we do some work for, basically extending our payment terms from 14 days which they did not always keep to to 6 - 8 weeks depending on when the work is done. They have also imposed an almost impossible purchase order system which does not fit the kind of work we do and will take considerable time to manage for a small business such as ours. I reckon we may have to put up our charges to this company to make up for the loss of revenue and extra work at the risk of losing the business altogether.

Hello Kevin
I think that a lot of businesses would like to see a name and shame list but it would be impractical for any website to create one.

Some of the UK larger businesses have been named and shamed for changing their payment terms but that is different from paying late.

For the future we want to focus on good payers and companies that support prompt payment (even if their sector of business does not allow prompt payment).

Hello Ian
There was a similar thread regarding extended payment terms here where Chris gave some advice.

A few years ago I advised a firm that did indeed set up a name and shame site. Unfortunately it can become so bogged down in defamation actions that it become unviable.

Professor Nick Wilson at the University of Leeds set up the Public Sector League Tables a few years ago where the payment information that public companies have to declare by law was put into a table. But even when one is just quoting a companies own public domain information the lawyers come out of the woodwork.

Its tricky to do

The FPB are an excellent organisation and have assisted many small businesses in getting the money they are owed.
